Here are some comments from a book club that read two of the books in the Hearts of the Ozarks series:

Voted new favorite author.

Raised so many good questions.

So much deeper than the cover.

We should all trust and communicate better.

Keep writing!

Our November book club always features a Christmas book, but we voted to add your 3rd book! I've never seen this group finish a series.

Ava MacKinney

The War Between the States hits southwest Missouri in August, 1861 with all the ugliness and horrors of war in the homeland.

Eliza is consumed by the need to avenge her father’s death. Presented with the opportunity to be involved in espionage, she foolishly says yes and is catapulted into a world of lies, play-acting, and danger.

Lieutenant Jonathon Monroe is furious when he discovers her occupation. Before Eliza’s father went to battle, he charged Jonathon with the job of protecting his daughter. It was an easy job to accept since he’d known and loved little Eliza since she was a baby. Against his better judgement, his feelings for her evolve from his guardian role to one of strong romantic attraction.

Will Eliza listen to reason when Jonathon begs her to stop spying? Will she be able to overcome the driving force of her anger and hatred? Anger that also extends toward God. In a pivotal moment she is faced with an unexpected choice. What will her answer be?

Maddy dreads the day her neighbor, Silas, will return home from war to claim his two little children. Two motherless children that have worked their way into her heart after four long years. Yet she knows they need their pa.

How can she maneuver through the days ahead as she tries to release them into the care of their father? How can she avoid the unwanted and threatening attention from her other neighbor, Sam Potter, who is determined to marry her and add her acreage to his?

As Silas rebuilds his neglected farm, he becomes more and more aware of Maddy’s dire and dangerous predicament. He wants to help her but isn’t sure how. His attraction for her is strong, but he denies it in shame, because he’s sure his petite neighbor is far too young for him.

In a bold and desperate move, Maddy backs him into a corner. What will Silas do?

Megan O’Mally made a quick decision to travel west to flee the scandalous rumors floating around St. Louis. Immersing herself in her new life among family and friends on the wagon train, she tries desperately to shake the overwhelming condemnation that has taken root in her spirit. Healing begins and new growth springs forth as she opens her heart to God. But a handsome officer from her past unexpectedly shows up and threatens to expose her. Can she forgive him and avoid his unwanted pursuit of her?

Nick Webster, the wagon master, is unwillingly attracted to Megan from the first day he meets her. She mystifies him and annoys him, but the attraction grows until he can’t deny it any longer. Then he finds out why she left St. Louis in such a hurry. He is forced to work with the offensive officer and bewildered as he watches him pursue Megan. No longer can he deny his feelings, but what does he do?

Can Nick believe her story? Will Megan allow God to forgive her? Can she forgive herself?

Ava, I just finished your marvelous book. I love all the history facts in it. Wow, Springfield really had a lot of trouble with the war. I can't imagine all the work and research you put in it. It was fabulous!

I have a bone to pick with you. I'm trying to get ready for a trip to Nicaragua and your book arrives from Amazon. I started to read it and didn't want to put it down.

It's really good, Ava and the story is captivating. Great job!

It has the ability to spark prayer. The description of Eliza's grief over the death of her father was so visceral for me that I had to stop and pray for our Ukrainian brothers and sisters dealing with so much death and devastation. I think the Lord has some surprising ways to use your story beyond its literary and entertainment value. Blessings on your future books.

Loved, loved your book! I read it in 2 days! Couldn’t put it down!

Just finished the book today! Loved how you incorporated historical facts in this book. A great read.

I was reading your book while I was waiting for my oil change at Handy Toyota in St. Albans. I kept tearing up and had to stop reading. I was telling Karla on the phone, she said she couldn't put your book down.

I am reading your book!! Wow and wow!! All that was in your head! I am impressed. The book starts out with a bang. There is no good place to stop. So much going on. I am only to the part where she is learning to be a spy and I am exhausted trying to help her remember everything she has to do!! I can't put it down. I love the historical setting. You are an amazing writer and I do read mostly historical novels.

What a talent you have! It was so enjoyable to read your book, Eliza long. You truly wrote a great book, and I didn't want to put it down to get something else done. I am looking forward to your next book and next book! Both my girls, Shay and Courtnee, have ordered your book.

I have read the first 3 books in this series and fell in love with the characters and story line. Learning history of the area was fascinating. I could easily imagine what life may have looked like during this time period. I read all 3 books in less than a week because I couldn’t put them down.

5.0 out of 5 stars All 3 books in the series are awesome!!

Ava MacKinny is a very gifted Christian writer! Lots of history, adventure, suspense and romance in her books. I highly recommend this series. They grab your attention from the first paragraph.

Maddy Malone

5.0 out of 5 stars - Page turner! Once I started reading about Maddy Malone I didn't want to put the book down. Ava MacKinney has written historical novels that are "page turners" . . . intense at times, historically accurate, interesting, clean, and filled with faith and commitment to God. There are times when her narrative seems to place me into the scene where I can almost feel that I am right there in the middle of the story. I look forward with anticipation to her next novels.

5.0 out of 5 stars - Loved it! I love that Ava MacKinney Is a local author to me...The areas that she writes about I'm familiar with. Putting the history in this series has been phenomenal for me to read. I can't wait for the 3rd book.

4.0 out of 5 stars - Predictable but Unexpected - The plot was predictable in some ways, you know who's going to wind up together but they get there through some interesting twists and excitement. Stayed up way too late to finish it.

Finished it today! Loved it! Can’t wait for #3!

Soo it’s 10:30 and I have accomplished nothing! Unless, finishing a book is something. I blame you Ava MacKinney! Could not put it down. It was soo good. For friends this is the second book in a series my cousin Ava wrote. First you have to read Eliza Long. Thanks Ava, looking forward to the next one.

Finished your second book last night. What a fun read!

I just finished reading Maddy Malone, and I have to tell you have much I LOVED it!! Even though I read your rough draft and knew how this story would unfold, I was hooked by the story, couldn't put it down, and couldn't wait to see what would come next. Your descriptions of everyday life, living on a farm, cooking, doing chores, emotions, love, were constructed with such detail that I could feel, smell, experience them all. I couldn't wait to finish this book, but I was so sad to be done. You are an amazing writer and captivating storyteller. I love how you intertwined the Gospel into every part of this book. I pray that people will come to Christ through this story. I really hope you can make this book into an audible one so people who have a hard time reading and/or holding books can hear it.

I bought your books for my 90 year old mom and she loved them! She said they were the best she has ever read 😊 and couldn’t put them down. I have yet to read them because she keeps sharing them with others to read. Lol.

I just read Maddy Malone! Awesome book! You have a true gift for writing interesting stories! When does the Megan O'Malley book get released?

I was just talking to my friend Karla. She said she read Maddy Malone in 3 1/2 hours because she couldn't put it down. She usually reads about one book a week. She has read hundreds of books but thinks yours is among the best if not the best.

I just finished your second book. It was riveting!! I couldn't put it down. So glad it was too cold to go anywhere!! There was so much suspense, always danger around the corner that it was exhausting trying my best to help Maddy and Silas. The twists and turns. The book had everything, love interest, suspense, lots of it, the details of primitive living, learning a lot as I read. I can't believe all those historical details and descriptions of the events were in your head... so amazing. Can't wait for the next one!

Megan O’Mally

I got mine from Amazon and have already finished it. SOOOO good! I sure hope that you don’t quit writing any time soon!!

Stayed up WAY too late to finish, but that is the mark of a great book!

I LOVED it! This is my favorite of yours (I loved the others too). The details about preparing and packing for the trip were the best I’ve ever read and I learned a lot. Plus the story was captivating. It was one of those “can’t put it down, what happens next, so so wish it didn’t end” kind of books.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Read! Ava’s books are all page-turners! Book 3 of the Hearts Of The Ozarks series is no exception! I highly recommend Megan O’Mally! Loved it!

5.0 out of 5 stars Heartwarming. I had a hard time putting this book down. I love the characters and the love they found in each other and Jesus.

5.0 out of 5 stars This book is so awesome! It has Christianity, adventure, history and romance. It's the 3rd and last book in The Heart of The Ozarks series. Ava MacKinney has a true talent for getting your attention in the first paragraph. I could not stop reading any of the books. I highly recommend them!

5.0 out of 5 stars Very well written. I really enjoy Ava MacKinny's style of writing. Her words easily flow, keeping the reader interested & wanting more. Megan O'Malley is a fierce independent woman, living in challenging times. She seeks a new life because of a misunderstanding & a protected life. Can she succeed? I laughed & cried, at the right places. I'm looking forward to Ava's next book.

Robert H. 5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome series. This series of books is terrific!!! The author definitely did her research! Quick enjoyable read!!
